Accreditation upgraded: Angela Merkel, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and humanitarian chef José Andrés will be among the first recipients today of the EU’s new Order of Merit – the bloc’s only distinction of its kind. The European Parliament recently created the award scheme, whose “laureates” are nominated for three levels of prizes by the EU’s top brass. A committee including Roberta Metsola, Josep Borrell, Enrico Letta, José Manuel Barroso and Michel Barnier then selected more than a dozen winners. Recipients will receive a badge, ribbon and certificate signed by Metsola in May.

You’re reading Rapporteur on Tuesday 10 March. This is Eddy Wax, joined by Nicoletta Ionta. We’re both in Strasbourg until Thursday.
